Welcome to the Substack for the Central Valley Journalism Collaborative!
What is the CVJC? We’re a new nonprofit newsroom based in Merced, California. Launched by the James B. McClatchy Foundation, the CVJC is building up a local operation to cover the news, issues and events that matter to residents of Merced, Merced County and the greater San Joaquin Valley.
The CVJC is currently developing a name and brand identity for our Merced-based newsroom. Once that is settled, we’ll be launching our newsroom’s website. Our current ETA is summer 2023. Please, follow this Substack for more information about those developments. In the meantime, you can learn more about the CVJC and our mission at this website: cvlocaljournalism.org.
As a nonprofit newsroom, we provide reporting to our partner newsrooms, such as Valley Public Radio and Fresnoland, and our stories are also republished by other newsrooms.
Who is behind this Substack? There are currently three of us on the CVJC news team: Editor in Chief Michelle Morgante; Community Engagement Editor Victor Patton; and Government Accountability/Watchdog Reporter Brianna Vaccari. We are all residents of the area and have years of experience reporting from not only Merced, but from areas across California and beyond. You can read more about us (and CVJC’s leadership) here: cvlocaljournalism.org/who-we-are/
Sign up as a subscriber (it’s free!) to receive an email notification whenever we publish new stories. You can also follow us on Twitter @cv_journalism and on Facebook under Central Valley Journalism Collaborative. More social links will come soon.
We are so excited to be building up this project for our local community. Stay tuned! There’s more to come.
