Permit application filed to bring IMAX theater to downtown Merced, city confirms
The documents, filed earlier this month, include a remodel permit for the Regal Hollywood theater on Main Street
Plans to bring an IMAX Theater to downtown Merced have taken a significant step forward, as an application for a tenant improvement permit and other documents for the project have been filed with the city.
The application for the permit was filed by Laguna Beach-based BB Architects on Feb. 12 to upgrade the existing Regal Hollywood theater at 403 W. Main Street to include a 4,053 square-foot IMAX theater auditorium.
“We’re looking forward to doing the work in the community, hopefully it goes quickly,” Kathy Lovell, architect with BB Architects, told The Merced FOCUS.

Sounds good, but won’t hold my breath! What’s going on with the mall? The old Sears building still has nothing going on last time I checked! Isn’t a new theater planned for the Campus Parkway expansion? So many questions, no answers! Check your article on the mall last September, the mall was supposed to have already started the Sears expansion. How about doing an article about the Laura Fountain reconstruction at Apple Gate Park! It been dead in the water since last year!
